Rest and Refuel
God created each and every one of us with a divine purpose in mind. Given that purpose is a marathon or better yet a lifetime series of many callings placed on our hearts. There are times when we will naturally grow weary, restless, disappointed, and arrive at our wits-end. Those moments are not meant for us to stop and give up on life altogether, but they are mere reminders that we are only human and we are called to depend on God for strength. However, God so graciously placed reminders within His Word that even the great prophets and our Savior Jesus Christ were called to still away. Still away to rest and refuel in order to continue the good works that the Father God has ordained for them. If we were to never grow weary and depend solely on our limited human strength then it would be a challenge for us to stop to genuinely seek God.
We will encounter wilderness, purging, true dependency (daily manna), and harvest seasons continuously in this lifetime. The best thing you can do for yourself is to glean the wisdom of each season to apply it the next time the season comes around or to help someone else through it. Above all, you called to rest and refuel throughout the seasons of your life. You are not called to keep running, striving, and producing all the time or else you would burn out not only yourself, but also your light. Resting in the form of mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, and relational. Give yourself a break and take everything off of your shoulders for a set amount of time. Still away to pray, sleep, decompress, and go within to realign yourself. Refuel by eating nutritious foods that strengthen you, drinking water to hydrate and refresh internally, tending to your physical endurance by stretching and getting active. God has greater works and greater joys ahead of you, but in order to lay hold of them you must learn to plan for times of rest and refuel. Just like Elijah, you will be strengthened for the next part of the journey.
Joy Gem: “Then he (The Prophet Elijah) lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.” He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. The angel of the Lord came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.” So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God.” - 1 Kings 19:5-8 NIV
