Joy in Uncertainty

Making peace with the truth that uncertainty is a constant in life requires reframing the relationship we have with it. Uncertainty seems like the big bad wolf because it is associated with fear of the unknown. It is human nature to want answers to our questions, to desire an inkling about what the future holds, and to know for sure what comes next after transitional periods. The illusion of being able to control every aspect of life is a daunting task because it requires desperately grasping at an unrealistic inclination. Few things we are in control of include how we respond to circumstances, how we treat ourselves and others, attitudes and perspectives, and conscious decision making. What if we decide to see the joy in uncertainty in the sense that it is an opportunity to be surprised by God and relinquish illusionary control to trust in His all-knowing wisdom.

Your life is always unfolding in ways known and unknown to you. If it is your belief that God has a plan for your life then perceive that even in the uncertainty you can be certain about that plan. Your future is secured. Your spirit is more resilient than you are aware of. If you build a deeper self-trust, you will come to rest in the belief that you can handle anything that may arise out of uncertainty. Find joy in uncertainty by tapping into childlike curiosity of wondering with glee what comes next and imagining miraculous possibilities. You can then be steadfast in your faith that all is working for your good and all will be well. You can work with the waves of uncertainty or against them, but keep in mind one requires that you give away your internal peace.

Joy Gem:  “If uncertainty is unacceptable to you, it turns into fear. If it is perfectly acceptable, it turns into increased aliveness, alertness, and creativity.” - Eckhart Tolle
